The Wilmington University Information Security Alliance is hosting a cybersecurity conference on Saturday, November 6th 2010, at the New Castle campus in Delaware. See http://www.securitybsides.org/BSidesDelaware for details.

 

An exciting collection of presentation proposals has already been received, but there is room for more. If you have a topic you would like to present, please consider submitting a proposal.

The Wilmington University ISA is a student based organization active in competitions and community service. ISSA Student Scholarships PDF Print E-mail

The Information Systems Security Association Education Foundation (ISSAEF) proudly announces a scholarship for outstanding students. To be eligible for a scholarship a student must be pursuing a career in information security and privacy and must be an active, full--‐time undergraduate or graduate student in an information security related program.
The applicant must fulfill the eligibility requirements below as established by the Scholarship Committee. Two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded for tuition and fees during the 2010--‐2011 academic year. Scholarship Eligibility Criteria is as follows:
- Community service and extracurricular activities
- Security-related work experience and security coursework
- Have an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or graduate of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), averaged over all institutions attended
- Be a full--‐time undergraduate or full--‐time graduate student in a degree program
- Be classified as a sophomore, junior or senior or enrolled in a Graduate program as of the semester in which the award is received (Fall 2010)

Each scholarship applicant must submit a completed application, consisting of:
- A one--‐page biography describing applicant’s background, chosen academic program, interests and goals in the information security field
- at least three letters of recommendation
o At least one letter of recommendation must be from a current ISSA chapter member
o At least one letter of recommendation must be from a faculty member at the school currently attended transcripts of the current institution attended.

Entries for the scholarship will be accepted from September 1, 2010 through November 1st, 2010. All scholarship applications and other required information must be submitted to ISSAEF by November 1st, 2010. Final candidates may be asked to participate in a thirty-minute telephonic interview with a Scholarship Committee member. Final selections will be determined by the ISSAEF Scholarship Committee members who will review and evaluate all materials submitted. We encourage all Colloquium members to support the ISSAEF Scholarship program.

You can learn more about CyberSecurity in Second Life. The CyberWatch  organization, an Advanced Technological Education Center funded by the National Science Foundation, is launching a 3D online virtual environment in Second Life to teach members about cybersecurity issues. The CyberWatch island will feature classrooms, meeting spaces, private and public auditoriums, and information about CyberWatch. The group will also use the virtual environment to conduct workshops and presentations to their members and for the public. The CyberWatch region is featured in the Second Life destination guide, under Education, at http://secondlife.com/destinations/learning. If you are not a current Second Life user, you can set up a Second Life account at http://secondlife.com/, create an avatar, and visit the CyberWatch island!
